♜Rook (inkwings)
Character name: Spiderstep
Gender: Dmab she-cat
Age: 25 moons
Soul Animal: Red-headed mouse spider (Missulena occatoria)
Rank: Warrior
Physical Description: Dark-colored cat with short, slick fur. A bit on the stocky side. She looks more or less like the average cat, with the exception of two sets of long, jointed legs in between her normal ones. The legs are strong and mobile, and are coated in a thick black exoskeleton. These shed every couple of months to reveal new exoskeletons that have grown underneath, usually thicker and shinier than the previous. Her normal cat eyes are average, copper in color, and in between them stretches a string of six small, glassy spider eyes. These eyes are fairly useless, and are only helpful for judging light level - which her cat eyes can do just fine, thank you very much. Her muzzle and mouth are fairly normal, with one major exception: growing from her muzzle are two furry red chelicerae, or fang casings. They conceal two sharp black fangs that can inject victims with a mild venom with the capacity to paralyze or possibly even kill. The chelicerae sometimes get in the way and muffle her words, so she prefers to use body language, often accentuating her points with her highly flexible arachnid legs.
Personality: [Attentive] [Balanced] [Firm] [Sincere] [Blasé]
(Motive/Belief: To protect her Clanmates at all costs, and do anything in her power to make the Clan safer and better. She also wants to bring pride to her name and live up to the legacies of her ancestors, but this is a lesser motivation.)
Attentive ::
Spiderstep tries to be aware of her surroundings at all times. She tries to spread her attention as much as possible, and as such may seem a bit distant during conversation, and perhaps slow to reply: while she finds it important to listen to her Clanmates, she cannot focus completely on them because she feels that she must be paying attention to everything else around her as well. She's known to be very alert even when tired, and functions just fine on less sleep than many of her Clanmates.
Balanced ::
Her skillset is rather well-rounded, though she does tend to be a bit more skilled in areas that are fast-paced and pertain to defense, like fighting and climbing. She doesn't particularly excel at much, as she prefers to be average in all areas rather than skilled in some but weak in others. She's also quite balanced physically, able to climb steep surfaces with ease, especially rock faces and the like. She is naturally talented in this way, and thus doesn't practice it much, only enough to keep her skill sharp: in theory she could progress greatly and become an excellent climber, but to do this she would have to focus particularly on this skill and leave the others behind, which she'd much rather not do. Her spider legs, obviously, are a great help in this.
Firm ::
Though she can put up with a bit of playing around, Spiderstep generally isn't one to participate in or approve of tomfoolery, and she has no trouble voicing this opinion. She understands the enthusiasm of kits but feels that they shouldn't take it too far, and that when they are asked to stop and focus they need to stop and focus. She'd like to train apprentices, perhaps, but many of them are too silly for her tastes, and she'd work best with a cat who was calm, devoted, and listened to instructions. She stands strong in the face of danger, never running away unless absolutely necessary. She keeps her cool throughout confrontations, both those with enemy creatures and her own Clanmates: in battle her moves rarely become sloppy and frenzied in desperation, and when speaking to others she almost never raises her voice in true anger.
Sincere ::
Spiderstep has never been the sort to keep her opinions locked up inside her. She doesn't see any point in blurting them out needlessly, but if asked, she has no qualms about being fully truthful. She understands that at times she must keep her thoughts to herself if they could be harmful to others, but she won't lie about them either, preferring to just stay quiet in these situations. She completes every task assigned to her to the best of her abilities, never slacking off. She will generally be honest if she doesn't understand or disagrees with something.
Blasé ::
Even in life-threatening situations, Spiderstep tends to remain remarkably nonchalant, especially if she's had a similar experience before. She doesn't fear death or pain, or if she does, she doesn't show it. This makes her good at encouraging others, as confidence inspires confidence. She tries not to feel disdainful towards those who are fearful, because while she doesn't understand their feelings that doesn't make those feelings any less real. She doesn't always succeed at this, though, and sometimes finds herself mentally looking down on Clanmates who get scared easily.
Skills: Well-rounded: particularly climbing, hunting, fighting
Weaknesses: Swimming (cannot swim at all), empathizing with others
History: Spiderstep was born to Dipperstream and Bat-tail, and she has one currently living sibling, Magpienose. Another sibling, Beetlekit, passed away before she was apprenticed. Once when she was an apprentice, Spiderstep was tasked with racing a fairly swift cat up a mountainside; there was no way she could pull ahead and overtake the other by using the established paths, and so she chose to scale steep rock faces rather than go around them to make her journey quicker. She didn't win, but came close to it.
Family: Dipperstream, mother, white-throated dipper (Cinclus cinclus), NPC
Bat-tail, father, little brown bat (Myotis lucifugus), NPC
Magpienose, brother, common magpie (Pica pica), NPC
Beetlekit, sister, Giraffe Stag-Beetle (Prosopocoilus giraffa), deceased
Roleplay Sample: Sitting on her haunches, jointed legs curled in close to her body, the spider chimera gave a low sigh, closing her two cat eyes but leaving the six others open. There wasn't really much of a point to this, because the only thing she could tell with these weak eyes was that it was very bright out. Honestly, it would be much more relaxing to close them as well - but of course, these eyes didn't have eyelids. Spiders were interesting creatures, but a bit impractical at times, Spiderstep thought. At least she didn't feel the urge to close these eyes like she did with her normal ones. They didn't need to stay wet at all times. That was a relief, because otherwise she'd have to go dipping her head in water every few minutes, and she did not like water.
A strong roar was in the air at all times, filling her head and making it hard for her to think. She sat on the steep cliff overlooking the waterfall, and droplets were constantly misting her fur, cooling her off on this hot day. An unexpected breeze tugged at her fur, and suddenly it was a bit too cool. Nothing could ever be perfect, she supposed, and those things that seemed that way didn't last for long. The breeze showed no signs of letting up, and she was tempted to unfurl her jointed legs and let the breeze whip them about and do with them what it wished. She liked the feeling, but something she did not like was the tangling that inevitably occurred with this event. She was not unfamiliar with this situation, and it took her quite some time to sort her legs out again. She didn't feel like going through that today.
After some moments of sitting there enjoying the smells and sounds of nature, she pushed herself to her paws and unfurled her glorious legs out to the side. She could walk with just her cat paws or just her spider legs or even a combination of the two; for now she choose the first option, and stretched her other legs out at her side, holding them stiff so the wind wouldn't move them about. She was supposed to be hunting now and so, with a laborious sigh, she picked her way up the steep, rocky slope above the cliff and disappeared into the shadows of the Darkwood.
Other: She's open for a mate or crush, but keep in mind that if you wanted to have kits your character would have to be dfab.
Of the seven deadly sins, I feel the one that fits her best is Pride or, in times of battle, Wrath.
