So you want to make a new character, but you don't know what to make? Don't worry! This will show you how to make an effective
Step 1: Choosing your spirit animal.
Choosing your spirit animal is the most important part of the process, and this is something you want to be compleatly sure you like. To make an interesting character, try using animals that aren't commonly used. Amphibians, rodents, african animals (not big cats), and fish are not commonly used chimeras, so I'd dig around for creatures in these categories that you like.
Step 2: Description
The next thing you'll want to do is think of how your character looks. Do they have scales or skin instead of fur, do they have a pattern similar to their spirit animals? How large is your character? There are important questions to ask yourself when deciding how they look.
Step 3: The personality
How does your character act? Are they irritable or shy? How does their spirit animal act? Do they have a history that would give them a certain personality trait? Personalities are incredibly important, and this is what you'll be playing around. I would suggest adding in how their spirit animal acts, since this makes coming up with a personality a bit easier.
Step 4: Weakness/Skills
Weaknesses and skills are normally based off of their personalities, but you can also base them off of their spirit animals. For example, a cheetah chimera would be really fast, but would have terrible stamina. Do your reaserch before you decided on their weaknesses and skills.
Final Step: The name
The name is the final part you should come up with, since the name often draws on their personality, description, and strengths. If your cat was black, Night would be a good prefix. If they are spirited, blaze would be a good suffix. Try to draw on these types of things.
I hope this helps!
